I N T R O D U C T I O N

Storage pest are mostly found in dry products such as grain, manufactured cereals, spices, dried fruits, herbs, etc. Most pest come from tropical and subtropical regions. These insects live and reproduce in hot and humid conditions. Storage pest include several beetles, moths, and a mite that can infest whole grains or processed foods. Some of the common storage pest are Drugstore Beetle (Stegobium paniceum), Indian Meal Moth(Plodia interpunctella), Grain Weevil (Sitophilus spp.), Flour beetles (Tribolium castaneum, T. confusum) etc.

  1. Storage pest can cause damage to stored grains by directly feeding on the grain at some point in their life cycle
  2. Will attack grains that are intact and stable
  3. Primary pest species often develop and reproduce very quickly when the conditions are optimal. This allows for large populations and, therefore, considerable damage to ensue within a matter of a few months to the storage product.
